Test method for the determination of flow curves and benchmark characteristic values for tensile testing by means of minor destructive indentation, 3D measurement and finite-element material models

Abstract

This document specifies a test method for determining flow curves of metallic materials by means of a non-destructive test indentation, 3D measurement and finite element material model (FEM). The yield curves are used to determine comparative characteristic values for characteristic values from the tensile test in accordance with DIN EN ISO 6892-1. This method applies to metallic materials - which deform plastically; - which produce an impact in the edge area of the test indentation when the indenter penetrates; - whose grain size is a maximum of 1/3 of the indentation diameter; - which do not contain lamellar graphite/spheroidal graphite/high porosity or structural components that cause a difference in strength in tension and compression. The method can be supplemented by a material- and specimen-specific adjustment (calibration). The method provides quantitative results independent of direction. At low indentation depths, the method can be used qualitatively to assess direction-dependent flow curves and comparative characteristic values. In the case of materials with gradients in terms of mechanical properties (e.g. via the product thickness), the (integral) mechanical properties of the product must not be inferred from a point measurement carried out using this method. mechanical properties of the product.
