Abstract

This document defines terms and definitions for the recycling of packaging and specifies general principles for design for recycling of packaging. This document also specifies the general procedures to evaluate the recyclability of packaging. This document is applicable for all packaging predominantly made of: — glass; — paper and cardboard; — steel; — aluminium; — plastics; — wood and cork; — textile; — porcelain and ceramics. This document outlines the framework and principles of design for recycling guidelines for evaluating and describing the level of compatibility of packaging components and constituents with the applicable collection, sorting and recycling processes. This technical specification is applicable to any packaging (transport packaging, group packaging and sales packaging) made from the materials listed above. It aims to provide a consistent approach for the guidelines and protocols for each packaging category or type.
