Daylight in interiors - Part 7: Simplified determination of minimum window sizes for living spaces

Abstract

This document provides a tabular method for determining minimum window sizes for living spaces. The minimum window size required to achieve the recommendation level "Low" in the criterion of daylight supply in accordance with DIN EN 17037 is specified for various boundary conditions. For interiors with skylights, the minimum skylight area required to achieve the "Medium" recommendation level is also specified. For windows in vertical façades, the minimum window size is specified with which the minimum brightness defined in DIN 5034 1 is achieved under the specified boundary conditions. The document can be used both for planning the window size of new residential buildings and for checking the window size in existing residential buildings.
