Earthworks - Chemical tests - Part 5: Determination of water-soluble salts content in soils by gravimetric method

Abstract

The aim of this document is to describe a gravimetric method to determine the water-soluble salt content, which are generally composed of inorganic ions such as sulphates, chlorides, nitrites, nitrates, bicarbonates, sodium, ammonium, calcium, magnesium, or strontium, by initial dissolution in demineralized water and subsequent weighing of the residue obtained by evaporation. The result obtained with this document does not include all the salts present in the soil, only those that are dissolved by the conditions set in this document. This result is not comparable with those obtained by Technical Specification TS 17685-4:2025 (sulphates in soils).
