Probabilistic evaluation of the effect of deterministic minimum requirements in standards

Abstract

This document specifies a procedure for evaluating the practical effectiveness of quantitative minimum requirements — specified as acceptance criteria for type testing in standards and regulations. This document applies to acceptance criteria for pressure vessels manufactured in series under identical conditions, based on minimum burst strengths. The limits of applicability are linked to the definition of an associated confidence level and the tolerance of a maximum acceptable failure probability. The acceptable failure probability depends on the potential consequences of the component.
