Smart Electrical Connectors - Terms, definitions, types, use cases, system architecture, information models, asset administration shell

Abstract

This document specifies general concepts of “Smart Electrical Connectors” (SmEC). SmECs are basically connectors according to IEC 61984 and detail specifications but additionally providing its digital representation, its asset administration shell (AAS). By using this AAS a digital system can access information or services provided by the SmEC. This may apply to any lifetime data including instance data e. g., from engineering to end of life. SmECs are described by a set of documents, see Figure 1. This document is describing generic issues such as terms and definitions, as well as common and superior specifications of the AAS. Specifications according to the respective application case are described within application-specific SmEC standards. As a basic concept, the connectors described by the application specific standards are based on and conform to the requirements of IEC 61984 and detail specifications.
