Disinfection of room air with UV radiation - UV-C Secondary Air Units
Abstract
This document specifies requirements for the design, function and safe operation of UV-C secondary air devices for room air disinfection with UV-C low-pressure lamps or UV-C LEDs and applies to UV-C secondary air devices with a main emission in the spectral range between 240 nm and 280 nm.
This document describes procedures and criteria for testing and evaluating the devices and their disinfecting effectiveness, the effect in the room and the assignment to device classes for specific areas of application.
This document is not applicable to
- devices for room air purification whose effect is based on filtration;
- primary air devices (UV-C systems in air ducts of permanently installed ventilation and air conditioning systems);
- UV-C devices for surface disinfection;
- free-radiating UV-C systems for irradiating the upper air area of a room (Upper Air);
- UV-C devices, mobile or stationary, intended for direct UV emission into the room
- hand-held UV-C devices for indoor disinfection (surface disinfection);
- UV-C devices with ozone-generating lamps;
- UV-C devices used for liquid disinfection;
- UV-C devices for medical applications;
- devices with coherent optical radiation sources (lasers);
- devices intended for use in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a highly dusty, corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapor or gas);
- combined devices consisting of a UV source and other purifying or sterilizing components;
- photocatalytic devices;
- devices with an oxidative effect;
- devices whose function is based on the addition of water or chemicals
- devices with atmospheric plasmas;
- UV-C devices for use in road, rail, water, air and space vehicles
