Safety of laser products - Part 1: Equipment classification and requirements

Abstract

This Part 1 of the international standards series IEC 60825 describes a classification scheme for lasers and laser products, with the aim of grouping them according to comparable hazard potentials of laser radiation for the eye and skin. Based on this, requirements are defined for the manufacturer to provide certain information so that appropriate precautionary measures can be taken. The purpose of these measures is to reduce the risk of injury by minimizing non-essential access to laser radiation and adequately warning people of the hazards of necessarily accessible laser radiation.
