Project

Metallic materials - Sheet metal - Determination of characteristic failure values from quasi-static and dynamic shear tensile tests

Abstract

The test described in this draft standard is used to describe the failure behavior of sheet metal materials in the thickness range between 1 mm and 3 mm under shear loading in a wide strain rate range and not to determine the onset of plastic flow behavior (onset of yield). The aim is to provide force-extension curves for CAE simulation and characteristic values for the calibration of failure models. The tests can be carried out under quasi-static loading on universal testing machines and under crash loading on high-speed tearing machines. The tests require an optical measuring system to determine the local shear strains on the sample surface, if possible up to fracture.
