DIN 8586
Manufacturing processes involving forming by bending - Classification, subdivision, terms and definitions

Title (German)

Fertigungsverfahren Biegeumformen - Einordnung, Unterteilung, Begriffe

Overview

This document applies to the manufacturing process "forming by bending" in Group 2.4 of the classification system for manufacturing processes according to DIN 8580. It defines the processes of "forming by bending" and indicates their position in the classification system, including subdivision into subgroups. The group of "forming by bending" processes primarily applies to metal, but it can also be applied to other malleable materials. Main Group 2, "Forming", to which Group 2.4 in this document is subordinated, is defined in DIN 8582. A classification number in the classification system according to DIN 8580, which uniquely identifies it, can be assigned to each manufacturing process based on the division into six main groups (amorphous materials, forming by bending, separation, joining, coating, and modification of material properties) and subsequent increasingly detailed subdivision into groups, subgroups, etcetera. This classification system establishes a common language and makes certain that the definitions of the various manufacturing processes are understood and used in the same manner by all users. This is useful when it comes to describing a production sequence, as it typically consists of several work operations in which different manufacturing processes are applied. This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 152-06-10 AA "Terminologie der Fertigungsverfahren" ("Terminology of production processes") at DIN Standards Committee Technical Fundamentals (NATG).
