Overview

The purpose of this part of IEC 61300 is to determine the effects of dust on fibre optic interconnecting devices or passive components. The standard describes the test setup, conditioning, test conditions, monitoring, recovery time, final measurement, test severity and measurement uncertainties, as well as details with regard to the test report. There are no restrictions on the scope of application of this document. The standard differs from DIN EN IEC 61300-2-27:1998-09 as follows: a) normative references have been added; b) the relative humidity requirement during the test has been modified; c) the procedure description has been modified; d) Figure 1 showing possible test configurations has been added; e) the severity of the test has been updated according to the component and performance category; f) Clause 8 has been added, listing details to be specified and reported. Application of this standard gives manufacturers and users greater investment security, provides testing laboratories and manufacturers with defined specifications for testing, and ensures compatibility across manufacturers.
