Overview

This standard deals with the safety of electric insect killers for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V, including direct current (DC) supplied appliances and battery-operated appliances. Appliances not intended for normal household use but that nevertheless can be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard. This standard does not apply to: - devices that operate by emitting vaporized chemicals; - devices that emit ultrasonic waves; - devices intended for use in rooms where special conditions prevail, such as corrosive or potentially explosive atmospheres (dust, vapor, or gas). Attention is thus drawn to the fact that the outdoor use of electric insect killers in Germany is prohibited under Section 44 of the German Federal Nature Conservation Act in conjunction with Section 4 of the German Federal Species Protection Ordinance.
