Overview
The particular requirements of this part of DIN VDE 0100 (VDE 0100) (series) apply to electrical installations in medical spheres in order to ensure the safety of patients and medical personnel. The specific safety requirements, including protection against electric shock and the reliability of the power supply, shall be taken into consideration for every activity and function in a medical sphere. The requirements of this part do not apply to ME devices or ME systems. These requirements apply primarily to hospitals and clinics or equivalent facilities (including equivalent transportable and mobile locations). Subject to evaluation, the requirements may also cover other areas of application, such as sanatoriums and health resorts, medical and dental practices, and other areas where medical electrical equipment is used, etcetera (this list is not exhaustive).
