Overview

This part of IEC 60794 describes test procedures to be used in establishing uniform requirements for optical fibre cables for the pneumatic resistance environmental property, for unfilled cables which are protected by gas pressurization. This document applies to optical fibre cables for use with telecommunication equipment and devices employing similar techniques, and to cables having a combination of both optical fibres and electrical conductors. Throughout this document, the wording "optical cable" can also include optical fibre units, microduct fibre units, etcetera. There are no restrictions on the scope of application of the document. The standard differs from DIN EN IEC 60794-1-22 (VDE 0888-100-22):2019-05, withdrawn in September 2022, as follows: a) the form of the formula for pneumatic resistance is modified for ease of calculation with test pressures other than 62 kPa; b) details to be reported are added. Application of this document increases investment security for manufacturers and users, provides testing laboratories and manufacturers with defined specifications for testing, and ensures compatibility across manufacturers.
