Overview
This part of IEC 61076 describes 2- to 17-pole M12 circular connectors with screw-locking for data transmission at frequencies up to 100 MHz, signal and power transmission up to a rated voltage of 250 V, and a rated current of 4 A per contact. These connectors consist of fixed and free connectors, either rewirable or non- rewirable. The male connectors have round contacts with diameters of 0,6 mm, 0,76 mm, 0,8 mm, or 1,0 mm, depending on the number of poles and the coding. All of the contacts are the same size. The different coding systems prevent the mating of differently coded male and female connectors. The standard specifies the dimensions of the components associated with a connector, the mating capability of the variants, and their mounting dimensions. In addition, the associated environmental classes, electrical, mechanical, and other characteristics, and test programs are specified. There are no restrictions on the scope of application of the document. The standard differs from DIN EN 61076-2-101 (VDE 0687-76-2-101):2013-01 and DIN EN 61076-2-101 Corrigendum 1 (VDE 0687-76-2-101 Corrigendum 1):2021-03 as follows: a) technical specifications with regard to dimensions (Clause 5) and properties (Clause 6) have been updated and new subclauses have been added; b) a new type NF (free connectors) has been added; c) fixed connectors with glass-metal seals (former types WM, XM, YM, ZM, and WF, XF, TF, and ZF) are no longer covered by this document: relevant definitions and requirements have been removed; d) P-coding has been removed; e) Annex B (informative), Steel mounting socket threads, sizes, has been deleted and a new Annex B (informative), Orientation of the cable outlet in relation to the coding, has been added; f) the dimensional specifications of the former types AM and BM have been moved to the new Annex C (informative). Application of this document increases investment security for manufacturers and users, provides testing laboratories and manufacturers with defined test specifications, and ensures compatibility across manufacturers.
