Overview
This part of IEC 60793 establishes uniform requirements for measuring the length and elongation of optical fibre (typically within cable). The length of an optical fibre is a fundamental value for the evaluation of transmission characteristics such as losses and bandwidths. An informative Annex F has also been added in order to determine the tensile load applied to a fibre. This involves the respective use of Brillouin reflectometry (BOTDR) or so-called Brillouin analysis (BOTDA), which are single-sided and double-sided methods. There are no restrictions on the scope of application of this document. Application of this document increases investment security for manufacturers and users, provides testing laboratories and manufacturers with defined specifications for testing, and ensures compatibility across manufacturers.
