Technical Report [CURRENT]

DIN CEN/TR 18076
Ambient air - Equivalence of automatic measurements of elemental carbon (EC) and organic carbon (OC) in PM; German version CEN/TR 18076:2024

Title (German)

Außenluft - Äquivalenz von automatischen Messungen von elementarem Kohlenstoff (EC) und organischem Kohlenstoff (OC) in PM; Deutsche Fassung CEN/TR 18076:2024

Overview

Although EC and OC are only operationally defined, measurements according to DIN EN 16909 are reproducible and EC and OC are universally applicable quantities according to the standard. However, the measurement is time-consuming, and continuous measurements of EC and OC are not described in DIN EN 16909. It therefore makes sense to supplement the thermo-optical analyses of OC and EC described in DIN EN 16909 with automatic measurement methods. However, the equivalence of the automatic methods in question with DIN EN 16909 shall be demonstrated. This Technical Report describes the range of possible automatic measurement methods for determining OC and/or EC and provides users with instructions for testing their equivalence with DIN EN 16909.
