Testing the resistance of unalloyed and low alloy steels to intergranular stress corrosion cracking by attack of nitrate medium - Welded and unwelded materials

Title (German)

Prüfung von unlegierten und niedriglegierten Stählen auf Beständigkeit gegen interkristalline Spannungsrisskorrosion in nitrathaltigen Angriffsmitteln - Geschweißte und ungeschweißte Werkstoffe

Overview

This document specifies a rapid corrosion test for testing welded and unwelded unalloyed and low-alloy steels for resistance to intergranular stress corrosion cracking. This document is not applicable to the testing of welded joints on seamless tubes. This test method shall only be used on ferritic and pearlitic steels which are intended to have increased resistance to intergranular stress corrosion cracking compared to general structural steels. The results of a test in accordance with this document are transferable to operational behavior if media containing nitrates are present without additional oxidizing agents and static mechanical stresses. The test method is not applicable for non-static mechanical stresses. For aluminum-killed carbon-manganese steels, the test results also provide an indication of the resistance to stress corrosion cracking in alkaline solutions. This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 062-01-77 AA "Korrosionsprüfverfahren" ("Corrosion testing") at DIN Standards Committee Materials Testing (NMP).
