Corrosion of metals and alloys - Electrochemical test methods - Test method for the determination of surface resistivity of zinc and zinc coatings using gel electrolytes

Title (German)

Korrosion von Metallen und Legierungen - Elektrochemische Prüfverfahren - Prüfverfahren zur Bestimmung von Deckschichtwiderständen an Zink und Zinküberzügen mittels gelartiger Elektrolyte

Overview

This document specifies a method for determining the corrosion protection effect of atmospheric coating layers based on surface resistivities. It contains guidelines for obtaining electrochemical measurement data using gel electrolytes on flat surfaces of components and structures made of zinc and zinc coatings. With sufficient experience, the gel electrolytes can also be used on zinc alloy systems (for example, ZnNi, ZnAl, ZnFe, ternary alloys) and conversion coatings. In this document, the aforementioned materials are referred to as zinc surfaces for simplicity. The corrosion protection of zinc surfaces in the atmosphere is based on the formation of protective layers from corrosion products. This document does not apply to materials with passive layers (such as stainless steels or aluminum), non-zinc-based coatings, and organic coatings (including those containing zinc dust and zinc flakes). Only gel electrolytes based on agar-agar are considered. This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 062-01-77 AA "Korrosionsprüfverfahren" ("Corrosion testing") at DIN Standards Committee Materials Testing (NMP).
