Electrical installations for lighting and beaconing of aerodromes - Part 3-2: Requirements for power supplies - Particular requirements for series circuits (IEC 61820-3-2:2023); German version EN IEC 61820-3-2:2023

Title (German)

Elektrische Anlagen für Beleuchtung und Befeuerung von Flugplätzen - Teil 3-2: Anforderungen an Stromversorgungen - Besondere Anforderungen an Serienkreisstromversorgungen (IEC 61820-3-2:2023); Deutsche Fassung EN IEC 61820-3-2:2023

Overview

This part of IEC 61820 specifies the requirements for power electronic converter systems (PECS) dedicated to powering aeronautical ground lighting (AGL) circuits with series circuit topology. This standard introduces an open specification for power electronic converter systems used in AGL (Aeronautical Ground Lighting) series circuits. The aim of this extended open specification is to enable the use of various new technologies within AGL while ensuring safe operation and a functional AGL system based on specific elements in a series circuit topology. In addition to revising the requirements for 6,6-ampere CCR setups, this standard introduces requirements for general PECS for new AGL systems including systems specifically designed for LED based luminaires. An example of a traditional implementation is an AGL circuit with 6,6-ampere RMS nominal current, powered by a constant current regulator (CCR). To clarify the distinction between different series circuit power supplies, a new classification system is introduced in Clause 4 of this standard. A basic class divides power supplies into PECS and CCRs (Constant Current Regulators). Therefore, within this standard, the term PECS refers to series circuit power supplies belonging to the general PECS class for AGL systems, and the term CCR refers to series circuit power supplies belonging to the CCR class for 6,6-ampere systems. The CCR class for 6,6-ampere AGL systems corresponds to traditional series circuit power supplies (constant current regulators) as defined in the previous version of this standard.
