Testing of lubricants - Determination of the content of additive elements - Wavelength-dispersive X-ray spectrometry analysis (XRS)
Prüfung von Schmierstoffen - Bestimmung des Gehaltes an Additivelementen - Wellenlängendispersive Röntgenfluoreszenz-Analyse (RFA)
Overview
This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 062-06-12 AA "Röntgenfluoreszenz-Analyse" ("X- ray fluorescence analysis") at the Petroleum, Fuels, Lubricants and Related Products Standardization Committee (FAM) of the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP) at DIN. This document specifies a method for determining the content of barium, calcium, zinc, and/or copper using X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF). This document is applicable to mineral oils, synthetic oils, and corresponding additives that contain, for example, barium (Ba), calcium (Ca), zinc (Zn), and/or copper (Cu) in oil-soluble form. The specified elements are components of the additives. The barium, calcium, zinc, and/or copper content allows conclusions to be drawn about the amount of additives added to the oil.
