Overview
The purpose of this part of IEC 61300 is to describe a method for measuring the statistical distribution and mean attenuation of randomly mated optical connectors with polished rectangular physically contacting PC and APC ferrules with multiple fibers in accordance with the provisions of the IEC 61754 series of standards. The standard describes the test setup, execution, monitoring, measurements, and measurement uncertainties, as well as details of the test report. There are no restrictions on the scope of application of this document. The standard differs from DIN EN 61300-3-45:2012-02 as follows: a) addition of the sample size for measurements of connectors with more than 12 fibers; b) inclusion of instructions for multimode measurement. The standard increases investment security for manufacturers and users, provides test laboratories and manufacturers with defined test specifications, and ensures compatibility across manufacturers.
