Corrosion of metals - Corrosion likelihood of metallic materials when subject to corrosion from the outside - Part 3: Buried and underwater pipelines and structural components

Title (German)

Korrosion der Metalle - Korrosionswahrscheinlichkeit metallener Werkstoffe bei äußerer Korrosionsbelastung - Teil 3: Rohrleitungen und Bauteile in Böden und Wässern

Overview

This document defines procedures for estimating the likelihood of corrosion of metal pipelines, containers and components whose outer surfaces are exposed to soil and surface water. The likelihood of corrosion of these parts is determined not only by the properties of the materials and corrosive media, but also by the type of construction, their spatial extent and extraneous electrochemical influences. Since these influencing factors cannot always be described with sufficient accuracy, only probability statements are possible about the corrosion to be expected. These should essentially provide information about the type and extent of corrosion that occurs and which protective measures are appropriate or absolutely necessary. This document assumes that the information in DIN 50929-1, DIN EN 12501-1 and DIN EN 12501-2:2003-08 is known. This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 062-01-71 AA "Korrosion und Korrosionsschutz" ("Corrosion and corrosion protection") at DIN Standards Committee Materials Testing (NMP).
