Analysis of natural gas - Biomethane - Determination of ammonia content by Tuneable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (ISO 2612:2023); German version EN ISO 2612:2023

Title (German)

Analyse von Erdgas - Biomethan - Bestimmung des Ammoniakanteils durch Absorptionsspektroskopie mittels durchstimmbarer Laserdioden (ISO 2612:2023); Deutsche Fassung EN ISO 2612:2023

Overview

This document applies to the determination of ammonia content in trace amounts in gaseous matrices such as biomethane, biogas, and landfill gas. As a product of the anaerobic fermentation of biomass, ammonia is a common contaminant in biogas. Analyzing the ammonia content in mixtures of methane in trace amounts is technically difficult due to the adsorbent nature of ammonia. Added to this are interferences with matrix components and the potentially explosive nature of methane. The methods described in this document are based on commercially available spectroscopic analyzers that are specifically designed for measuring ammonia. These have been proven to perform acceptably in quantifying the ammonia content in biomethane at a level of 10 mg/m3. The responsible national standardization committee is Working Committee NA 032-03-08 AA "Biogas" ("Biogas") at DIN Standards Committee Gas Technology (NAGas).
