Overview
This document provides general information for understanding the design, operation, and application of current-limiting high-voltage fuses. This document is a Technical Report and therefore does not contain any requirements; it is for informational purposes only. The objectives of this Technical Report are: a) to assist potential users and protection engineers in understanding the fundamentals of high-voltage fuse technology (>1 000 VAC) and applications in which high-voltage fuses (HV fuses) are used; b) to illustrate the special and unique advantages of fuse protection in most service applications; c) to minimize the potential misuse of fuses, which could lead to problems at the point of use; d) to list and describe the current current-limiting fuses and the applicable international standards. This technical report includes information that has already been published in IEC and other publications, as well as new material. The information currently duplicated in these publications is therefore likely to be deleted in a future revision.
