Overview

The document describes the implementation of software-based technical tools for improving the planning processes of technical systems and their integrated automation systems, particularly in connection with communication systems. In this regard, both functional and non-functional modeling requirements are described. The use of AutomationML for modeling communication systems with the following characteristics is not excluded from the scope of the document, but is also not intended for this purpose: 1) communication structures based on acyclic services and used only for a limited period of time, as is commonly found on the World Wide Web, 2) security or protection aspects and complex data on device behavior and structure that are typically contained in device description languages. A typical application example is the creation of configuration data for communication components of automation devices, including the definition of communication addresses and the structuring of communication packets. This data is created during the control programming phase and then used in a component configuration tool. Another common application is to transfer the configurations of communication devices to tools for virtual commissioning, documentation, or diagnostics.
