DIN 51399-1
Testing of lubricants - Determination of elements content in additives, wear and other contaminations - Part 1: Direct determination by optical emission spectral analysis with inductively coupled plasma (ICP OES)

Title (German)

Prüfung von Schmierölen - Bestimmung der Elementgehalte aus Additiven, Abrieb und sonstigen Verunreinigungen - Teil 1: Direkte Bestimmung durch optische Emissionsspektralanalyse mit induktiv gekoppeltem Plasma (ICP OES)

Overview

This document has been prepared by Working Committees NA 062-06-11 AA "Atomspektrometrie" ("Atomic spectrometry") and NA 062-06-63 AA "Gebrauchtöluntersuchung" ("Analysis of used oils") of Technical Committee Petroleum, Fuels, Lubricants and Related Products Standardization Committee (FAM) at DIN Standards Committee Materials Testing (NMP). The precision data have been determined by statistical evaluation of the results of interlaboratory tests carried out at FAM. This document specifies a test method for the determination of the elements listed in unused and used mineral oils which may originate from the additive content, from abrasion or from impurities. These are in particular the elements: barium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, sodium, potassium, lithium, iron, silicon, sulphur, manganese, molybdenum, copper, phosphorus, boron, aluminum, tin, lead, nickel, titanium, vanadium, chromium, tungsten and zirconium.
