DIN EN 14790
Stationary source emissions - Determination of the water vapour in ducts - Standard reference method; German version EN 14790:2017

Title (German)

Emissionen aus stationären Quellen - Bestimmung von Wasserdampf in Kanälen - Standardreferenzverfahren; Deutsche Fassung EN 14790:2017

Overview

This European Standard specifies the standard reference method (SRM) based on the paramagnetic method for the determination of oxygen concentrations in exhaust gases emitted into the atmosphere from exhaust ducts. It includes the equipment for sampling and sample gas conditioning as well as the analyzer. This European Standard specifies method parameters to be determined and minimum requirements to be met by portable automatic measuring systems (P-AMS) based on this measurement method. It applies to recurring measurements and to the calibration or verification of automatic measuring systems (AMS) that are permanently installed on an exhaust gas duct for regulatory or other purposes. This European Standard specifies requirements for demonstrating the equivalence of alternative methods (AM) to the standard reference method (SRM) by applying EN 14793. This European Standard has been validated during field tests on waste incineration, co-incineration and large combustion installations and on a recognized test-bench. It has been validated for sampling periods of 30 min in the range of 3 % to 21 %. Oxygen concentration values, expressed as volume fraction, are used to relate the results of emission measurements to the oxygen reference concentration and to dry gas, as required, for example, by EU Directive 2010/75/EU. The revised version of EN 14789:2006 contains corrections and adaptations to newer standards. These include in particular: - Directive 2000/76/EC has been replaced by Directive 2010/75/EU; - the normative reference to EN 13284-1 has been replaced by EN 15259 regarding requirements for measurement sections and sites and for the measurement objective, plan and report; - the normative reference to EN 15267-4 regarding the minimum requirements and test procedures for portable automated measuring systems for monitoring emissions from stationary sources has been added; - the definitions have been revised taking the definitions in EN 15259 into account and the new version of VIM (2012); - the detection limit has been deleted from the list of definitions and performance characteristics as repeatability at zero is more suitable; - the symbols and abbreviations used in the main section of the document have been included; - the performance characteristics shall be determined in a general performance test according to the test procedures described in EN 15267-4; - a reference to EN 15259 has been added to determine the homogeneity of the exhaust gas profile; - test gases shall be traceable to SI units; - an equation to calculate the concentration corrected when drift occurs has been included; - the expression of results has been modified to be in line with EN 15259; - the standard deviation sr,limit according to new rules specified in EN 14793 has been recalculated; - an estimate for the expanded uncertainty calculated on the basis of the comparison precision has been included, replacing the expression "external confidence interval"; - presentation of the calculation of the uncertainty budget has been improved; - typing errors in the table to determine the drift have been corrected. This European Standard is intended in particular for testing laboratories that use standard reference methods within the scope of periodic measurements, for manufacturers of corresponding measuring equipment, for testing institutes that conduct performance tests of such measuring equipment, for plant operators and for supervisory authorities. This European Standard deals in particular with aspects of environmental protection and quality control in emission monitoring. The responsible committee for this standard is NA 134-04-01 AA "Emissionsmessverfahren" ("Emission measurement techniques") at DIN.
