Prüfungen zur Beurteilung der Brandgefahr - Teil 11-20: Prüfflammen - Prüfverfahren mit einer 500-W-Prüfflamme (IEC 60695-11-20:2015 + COR1:2016); Deutsche Fassung EN 60695-11-20:2015 + AC:2016

Overview

When designing electrotechnical products, the risk of fire as well as the potential hazards associated with fires shall be taken into account and minimized as far as possible by dimensioning components, designing the circuitry and selecting materials. The basic principle is to prevent any ignition or, if necessary, to contain the spread of fire and harmful fire gases. Part -11-20 of DIN EN 60695 specifies small fire test methods which allow the comparison of the fire behaviour of various solid or foam-like materials used in electrotechnical products. Test specimens made of such materials are exposed to a small flame ignition source with a nominal thermal power of 500 W in both horizontal and vertical positions. The test methods determine either the flammability and fire behaviour or the burn-through of a test specimen. They are designed to be carried out in laboratories. The test methods are used, among other things, for the classification and pre-selection of materials. This new edition has been revised throughout for clarification and alignment with Part -11-10. IEC 60695-11-20 is a basic safety standard. It is intended for technical committees for implementation in standards and is consistent with IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51. Application-specific integration of this basic safety standard is then the responsibility of the respective technical committee. The responsible committee is DKE/K 133 "Prüfverfahren und Beurteilung der Brandgefahr von elektronischen Produkten und Isolierstoffen" ("Fire hazard testing of electronic products and insulating material") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
