Knee pads for mining - Part 1: Rubber knee pads

Title (German)

Knieschützer für den Bergbau - Teil 1: Knieschützer aus Gummi

Overview

Despite the progress with respect to mining and extraction technology, various manual tasks remain valid in the often limited working spaces. Low thicknesses, unfavourable positioning of machine parts or unexpected positions of disturbances frequently require working in constrained, often in kneeling postures. High physical exertion, uneven ground and prolonged dwelling periods present an immediate risk of work-related accidents, the accumulation of such tasks involves the hazard of chronic diseases and signs of wear in the knee joint which may lead to occupational disability. This standard applies to knee pads made of rubber used for mining applications primarily underground but also above ground. It specifies dimensions, requirements, testing and marking. The standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 008-07-01 AA "Persönliche Sicherheits- und Schutzausrüstungen" ("Personal safety and protective equipment") of FABERG.
