Testing of carbonaceous materials - Determination of apparent density after tamping - Solid materials

Title (German)

Prüfung von Kohlenstoffmaterialien - Bestimmung der Stampfdichte - Feststoffe

Overview

This document provides a test method to determine the apparent density of carbonaceous materials (solid materials) of specific particle size fractions after tamping. The apparent density after tamping depends primarily on the density, size, form and porosity of the granules. In principle, the knowledge of the apparent density after tamping allows for the comparison of granular carbonaceous materials. To determine the apparent density after tamping, a certain amount of the same particle size fraction of the material to be tested is being tamped by means of a tamping volumeter. The apparent density after tamping can be calculated from mass and volume after tamping. It shall be noted, that the quality of sample preparation (sieving) has a significant influence on the precision of the test results. The committee responsible for this standard is Working Committee NA 062-02-81 AA "Prüfverfahren für Kohlenstoff und Graphit" ("Testing of carbonaceous materials") at DIN.
