DIN 51907
Testing of carbonaceous materials - Determination of density with liquid pycnometer - Binding and impregnating materials

Title (German)

Prüfung von Kohlenstoffmaterialien - Bestimmung der Dichte mit dem Flüssigkeits-Pyknometer - Binde- und Imprägniermittel

Overview

This document specifies a test method for the determination of density of binding and impregnating materials (pitch) with a softening point according to DIN 51920 of 50 °C and above. The determination of density is performed by melting the sample, crushing it after solidification and sieving particle sizes of 0,5 mm to 1 mm. This sample is filled into a liquid pycnometer and evacuated. The pycnometer under vacuum is filled with distilled or deionized water containing a wetting agent. The committee responsible for this standard is Working Committee NA 062-02-81 AA "Prüfverfahren für Kohlenstoff und Graphit" ("Testing of carbonaceous materials") at DIN.
