DIN 76722
Road vehicles - Electrical cables - Design rule for abbreviation codes

Title (German)

Straßenfahrzeuge - Elektrische Leitungen - Regel für den Aufbau der Kurzbezeichnungen

Overview

This standard applies to electrical cables intended for use in road vehicles. It specifies the structure of codes, or the nomenclature, for these cables. This standard is intended for: - the technical departments of cable manufacturers, - the cable processing industry and - the manufacturers of road vehicles (OEM). Due to the OEM specific requirements for electrical cables for road vehicles, DIN 76722 will be of importance exclusively for the automotive and supply industries. Although this nomenclature never unambiguously identifies the requirements profile of the respective cable, its users are provided, for example, with initial references to: - its function, - the insulating materials used, - the number of conductors and - their nominal cross sections. DIN 76722 does not claim to provide the unambiguous quality references of a typical delivery standard or technical delivery conditions. On an international level, this nomenclature has been accepted and adopted for some time now. No International Standard is currently known that is applicable on a global level. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 052-01-03-04 AK "Elektrische Fahrzeugleitungen" ("Automotive electrical cables") at DIN.
