DIN ISO 14859
Ships and marine technology - Sound reception systems (ISO 14859:2012)

Title (German)

Schiffe und Meerestechnik - Schallsignal-Empfangsanlagen (ISO 14859:2012)

Overview

In the shipping industry signal horns are used to, for instance, warn or to draw attention to other ships with a sound signal. On most ships the bridge is constructed in a fully enclosed manner and is therefore insufficient for acoustic transmission. Personnel on the bridge can therefore barely perceive the acoustic signal of other ships. Ships of this type shall be equipped with a sound reception system, which receives sound signals from other ships using directional microphones and recognizes the direction from which the sound occurs. The amplified signal is played back to the bridge via loudspeakers. Moreover the sound intensity and input direction are indicated with a suitable display. This standard specifies requirements for the performance and installations of sound reception systems. It has been prepared by NA 132-03-10 AA "Navigation" ("Navigation") of the Shipbuilding and Marine Technology Standards Committee (NSMT).
