DIN EN 16378
Cereals - Determination of impurities content in maize (Zea mays, L.) and sorghum (Sorghum bicolor, L.); German version EN 16378:2013

Title (German)

Getreide - Bestimmung von Besatz in Mais (Zea mays, L.) und Hirse (Sorghum bicolor, L.); Deutsche Fassung EN 16378:2013

Overview

Incoming control of a cereal batch takes place by a visual analysis of the besatz (impurities) of the external condition of a cereal delivery, amongst others. The besatz fractions limit the processing value from a milling or baking technological point of view. Moreover, this also includes miscellaneous impurities which dominantly consist of risk material that is harmful to the health and is required to be disposed. Along with the field of raw material assessment, determination of besatz in the field of seed testing and treatment is very significant. This standard specifies the term "Besatz" (miscellaneous impurities) and describes methods for the determination of its components. The term "Besatz" is used in this standard as a parameter for certain quality aspects in maize (Zea mays L.) and sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.). This European Standard has been prepared in CEN/TC 338 "Cereal and cereal products". The national Mirror Committee is the Working Committee of the same name NA 057-05-06 AA of NAL.
