DIN EN 1238
Adhesives - Determination of the softening point of thermoplastic adhesives (ring and ball); German version EN 1238:2011

Title (German)

Klebstoffe - Bestimmung des Erweichungspunktes von thermoplastischen Klebstoffen (Ring und Kugel); Deutsche Fassung EN 1238:2011

Overview

This document (EN 1238:2011) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 193 "Adhesives", the secretariat of which is held by AENOR. This document supersedes EN 1238:1999. The significant modifications with regard to the former version have been made in the foreword, normative references and in the note in 5.8. The responsible German committee is Working Committee NA 054-04-06 AA "Klebstoffe - Terminologie; physikalisch-chemische Prüfungen" ("Adhesives - Terminology; physical and chemical tests") at the Plastics Standards Committee (FNK). This European Standard specifies a method for the determination of the softening point of hot-melt adhesives. Thermoplastic adhesives do not change from the solid to the liquid state at a fixed temperature, but their viscosity decreases progressively as the temperature rises. For this reason, the determination of the softening point shall be carried out by defined methods to obtain comparable results.
