Overview

This DIN SPEC 91247 (DIN CEN/TR 15642) "Unified test procedures for the tests of EN 3-7:2004+A1:2007" has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 70 "Manual means of fire fighting equipment" (secretariat: AFNOR, France). With this DIN Specification (DIN SPEC) in accordance with the Technical Report procedure, the methods for the testing of fire extinguishers are unified according to EN 37 and the test sequences are described in detail. The purpose of this DIN SPEC is to achieve reproducible test results for fire extinguishers, independent of who carries out the tests and where they are being carried out. The "TR" in the document number is an acronym for "Technical Report" and is referred to as "Technischer Bericht" in the German standardization terminology. Technical reports are published at DIN as so-called DIN Specifications (DIN SPEC) according to the Technical Report procedure. DIN SPECs according to the Technical Report procedure do not have a normative character. A DIN SPEC according to the Technical Report procedure contains information, data, etcetera, from or for standardization projects, which support information about the state of standardization and can be used as a basis for future standardization work. Technical Reports allow for the securing of data and information obtained once, by documenting work results of the standardization work, which are not intended to be published as DIN standards or DIN SPEC following the Pre-standard procedure. For the following points the tests for portable fire extinguishers have been unified and the test sequences have been described in detail: - duration of operation and residual charge; - effective range of operating temperature; - operation and emission control mechanisms/devices and safety devices; - control valve; - hoses and coupling systems; - resistance to the extinguishing medium of extinguishers using water based media; - classes A and B fire tests; - compaction procedure; - class F fire tests. The following modifications have been made with respect to the previous edition DIN Technical Report CEN/TR 15642:2008-03: a) the contents of the standard have been completely editorially revised; b) Part 1 to Part 4 have been transferred to the annexes; c) information about the compaction procedure, the resistance to the extinguishing medium of extinguishers using water based media, the duration of operation and residual charge and the control valve has been revised; d) new annexes on the effective range of operating temperature, operation and emission control mechanisms/devices and safety devices, hoses and coupling systems, classes A and B fire tests and class F fire tests have been added; e) normative reference to EN 3-7:2004+A1:2007 has been updated and EN ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 6571, ISO 4470 have been added to the normative references. On the national level, the Committee responsible for this document is NA 031-01 FBR "Fachbereichsausschuss Handbetätigte Geräte für die Brandbekämpfung - SpA zu CEN/TC 70" ("Coordination Committee Manual means of fire fighting equipment - Mirror Committee of CEN/TC 70") at DIN.
