Remanufacturing-X
Accelerating Europe’s Transition to Digital Circular Manufacturing
Remanufacturing-X aims to establish remanufacturing as a strategic enabler for a climate-neutral and digitally sovereign European industry by transforming remanufacturing into a high-value, data-driven pillar of Europe’s circular economy. The project aims to create a trusted and interoperable ecosystem in which artificial intelligence (AI), digital twins and data spaces enhance decision-making, efficiency, and sustainability across value chains.
Digital solutions for circular manufacturing
To achieve this, the project is developing a Remanufacturing Digital Product Passport (REM-DPP) and a Remanufacturing Data Space (RDS) that enable secure, standardised and EcoDesign-compliant information flows. AI-based tools support smart disassembly, lifecycle optimisation and quality assurance, augmenting human functions safely and efficiently.
Industrial pilots and standardisation
Remanufacturing-X validates replicable solutions in five industrial pilots covering textiles, food, machinery, maritime applications and batteries. The project’s complementary measures include:
- a digital marketplace connecting suppliers and users of circular services, materials and product parts and enabling new circular business models;
- dynamic pricing and transparency regarding environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria;
- digital and inclusive training to prepare the workforce; and
- social innovation to help build public trust.
Beyond the project’s duration, the platform will continue to evolve, enabling industrial stakeholders to make ongoing use of the marketplace and digital tools.
DIN contributes its expertise in standardisation to the project. The objective is to align the developed approaches with existing standards and to anchor the project’s results in national, European and international standardisation efforts.
