About NWM

The DIN Standards Committee Machine Tools (NWM) is concerned with the preparation of standard within the scope of metalworking machine tools and machine tools for the machining of other technical materials. In Europe this committee represents Germany within the CEN/TC 143 "Machine Tools-Safety". On International basis, the NWM works within ISO/TC 39 "Machine Tools".

The mainly covered kinds of machine tools are

  • material removal machines,
  • components for special-purpose and transfer machines,
  • drilling machines,
  • turning machines,
  • milling machines and milling-drilling machines,
  • planing and slotting machines,
  • presses,
  • broaching machines,
  • sawing machines,
  • grinding machines,
  • shaping machines
  • and gear cutting machines.

Essential parts of standardisation for the NWM are standards concerning for example the interfaces:

  • human-machine,
  • machine-tool,
  • machine-workpiece

and standards for testing, quality and safety, e. g. for the ascertainment of the fundamental safety- and health-requirements of the EG Directrives.
