Overview

The standards of the EN 3745 series describe test methods for fiber optic cables for use in aircraft. The new edition of Part 410 specifies a method of measuring the thermal endurance of a finished optical cable. There are two test methods incorporated which estimate the cables thermal life with or without the mechanical stress: - Method A - without mechanical stress (temperature only), - Method B - combined temperature and mechanical stress. The standard differs from the previous edition DIN EN 3745-410:2009-05 as follows: In addition to the previous test method, now referred to as Method A, a further method, referred to as Method B, has been included, which combines temperature stress with mechanical stress. The standard series EN 3745 has been prepared by ASD-STAN, Technical Section Electrics, Avionics, with the participation of German experts of the Aerospace Standards Committee. The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) declared the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD-STAN) responsible for the preparation of European standards (EN) for the field of aerospace. The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 131-04-10 AA "LWL und LWL-Komponenten" ("LWL and LWL-components") at DIN Standards Committee Aerospace (NL).
