Overview

This International Standard defines the rules to be applied for symbolic representation of welded and soldered joints in metallic materials on technical drawings. The symbols may include information about the geometry, manufacture, quality and testing of the welded and soldered joints. The symbols shown in this International Standard may be combined with other symbols used on technical drawings, for example with symbols to designate surface finish requirements. In addition, an alternative designation method is described which may be used to represent welded/soldered joints on drawings by specifying the most essential design information such as weld dimensions, quality level, etcetera. With the new edition of this International Standard, not only the contents have been extended and revised but also it is taken into account that there are two different approaches (system A and system B) on the global market to designate the arrow side and the other side on drawings. The symbols use a dual reference line according to ISO 2553:1992 for system A and a single reference line according to AWS A.2.4 for system B. This International Standard has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 44/SC 7 in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 121 "Welding and allied processes" (secretariat: DIN, Germany). The responsible German body is NA 092-00-06 AA "Darstellung und Begriffe (DVS AG I 4)" ("Representation and terms (DVS AG I 4)") at DIN Standards Committee Welding and allied processes (NAS).
