Overview
Conveyor belts are used in mining applications for the continuous transport of large amounts of loose bulk materials, sometimes over long distances. Due to the mainly automatic and unmanned operation, the critical conditions of use and the often inhomogeneous nature of the conveyed material, the conveyor belt is subject to high requirements. For reasons related to transport and fabrication, conveyor belts for long distances are assembled from individual parts of up to 300 m in length to form an endless belt. The joint area has a significantly lower load capacity than the rest of the conveyor belt. Hence, the outcome figures depend on the quality of the belt joint construction with respect to the prevention of operating failures and downtimes. This standard applies to permanent joints of conveyor belts with textile plies in accordance with DIN 22109-1, DIN 22109-2 and DIN 22109-4 produced using only a hot bonding method. For the production of belt joints, materials which are suitable for the respective belt type shall be used in order to meet the requirements for conveyor belts as specified in DIN 22109-1, DIN 22109-2 and DIN 22109-4. In hard coal underground mining, only belt joints with specific verified flammability, mining hygiene and electrical properties shall be used. The standard has been prepared by NA 008-05-03 AA "Fördergurte" ("Conveyor belts") of the Standards Committee Mining (FABERG).
