Conveyor belts - Indentation rolling resistances of conveyor belts related to beltwidth - Requirements, testing

Title (German)

Fördergurte - Gurtbreitenbezogener Eindrückrollwiderstand von Fördergurten - Anforderungen, Prüfung

Overview

Conveyor belt systems represent the most efficient opportunity for transport of large quantities of bulk material. Conveyor belt systems are, however, also one of the largest energy consumers in the German mining companies. The coefficient of friction (f-value) is significant for the energy demand of a conveyor belt system. The smaller this value the less energy is necessary to operate a conveyor belt system. The coefficient of friction is composed of several resistances. In this respect, up to 60 % of the total resistance of long, horizontal conveyor belt systems is related to the indentation rolling resistance of conveyor belts. This is significantly dependent on the rubber mixture on the return side of the conveyor belt and can be influenced by energy-optimised rubber mixtures or changes in the belt structure. This standard specifies a method to determine the indentation rolling resistance of conveyor belts related to beltwidth. The method shall easily and quickly deliver reproducible values that can be used in practice. The measurement results can allow for a comparable evaluation of conveyor belts and can be used for design of belt conveyors with steel cord conveyor belts. The standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 008-05-03 AA "Fördergurte" ("Conveyor belts") at FABERG.
