Locks for waterways for inland navigation - Principles for dimensioning and equipment

Abstract

The standard specifies requirements for dimensioning, equipment, construction and overall arrangement of massive locks for waterway for inland navigation to be newly erected. The standard shall be analogously applied for the improvement of the functionality of existing locks within the maintenance as well for sheet pile locks and with regard to equipment, for approach piers for entrance, outer harbours and moorings with vertical embankments. Following a clarification of certain terminology, statements for regular dimensions of locks are made which are in particular due to operations with larger vessels. Specifications for construction and overall arrangement, equipment (marking of the effective length and entry aids), ladders, bollards (impacts, arrangement, recessed, edge, floating bollards), mooring devices for maintenance and sports and leisure shipping, edge and collision protection (skirting boards, shock protection devices), guardrails, equipment in the head areas, safety and rescue devices, represent the most important part of the standard.
