DIN Standards Committee Safety Design Principles

About NASG

NASG carries out horizontal standards work concerning fundamental and interdisciplinary safety-related requirements.

At present, the committee is active in the following fields of standardization:

  • safety design principles,
  • fire protection and explosion prevention,
  • measuring and reducing hazardous substances,
  • children's articles and consumer products.

Our standards show product developers and designers how to take safety aspects into consideration during the design phase. Much of our work is based on legislation such as the Machinery Directive, the ATEX (explosion protection) Directives and the German Product Safety Act (ProdSG). As of February 2009 the committee is also responsible for children's articles.
