Dentistry - Dimensions for archwires and attachments for orthodontic appliances
Abstract
DIN 13996 is applicable to the orthodontic elements brackets and tubes and specifies dimensions and tolerances for archwires and attachments for orthodontic appliances. This standard specifies dimensions and tolerances. With the adoption of the international standards ISO 15841 and ISO 27020 as DIN EN ISO 15841 and DIN EN ISO 27020, terms, requirements, and test methods for wires and fasteners used in orthodontics have been standardized worldwide. However, unlike the earlier national standards DIN 13971 and DIN 13971-2, the tolerance limits specified in those standards were not included. These dimensions are important because, in clinical use, brackets and wires for orthodontic applications are compatible only if specified dimensions and tolerance limits are adhered to. For this reason, the NA 014-00-18 AA Working Committee on “Orthodontic Products” has decided to further specify these dimensions and their tolerance limits in this national standard. DIN 13996 therefore supplements DIN EN ISO 15841 and DIN EN ISO 27020. The primary purpose of this revision is to update the normative references to the cited DIN EN ISO standards. The responsible national standards body is NA 014-00-18 AA “Orthodontic Products” within the DIN Standards Committee Dentistry(NADENT).
