Soil - Calculation of design bearing capacity of soil beneath shallow foundations
Baugrund - Berechnung des Grundbruchwiderstands unter Flachgründungen
Overview
This document applies to calculation of the design bearing capacity of soil beneath shallow foundations based on stratigraphic profiles and the characteristic values of soil properties in accordance with DIN 4020. It deals with the calculation principles and methods for determining the design bearing capacity at the base of shallow foundations. The calculation methods are based on the assumption of approximately direction-independent shear parameters for each relevant layer. This document applies to strip foundations and to compact foundations, provided they can be assumed to be rigid. This document applies to shallow foundations loaded vertically or obliquely, centrally or eccentrically, in soil with a depth of foundation d and a foundation width b in the range d/b ≤ 2 a) on a horizontal ground surface; b) for sloping ground surfaces, provided that the long side of the foundation runs approximately parallel to the contour lines of the terrain and the horizontal component of the resultant of the loads is directed approximately parallel to the short side of the foundation. For d/b <(größer)> 2 the results are on the safe side, provided that calculations are performed using d/b = 2. Calculation of the design bearing capacity applies - to cohesionless soils with a relative density ID > 0,2 (for a uniformity coefficient CU ≤ 3) or ID <(größer)> 0,35 (for a uniformity coefficient CU <(größer)> 3), - for cohesive soils with a consistency index IC <(größer)> 0.5. This document is not suitable for verifying fitness for purpose.
