Overview
The information in this Supplement serves to improve the understanding of DIN EN IEC 62305-3 (VDE 0185-305-3). It considers structures for which there are few International Standards with regard to lightning protection. In addition, reference is made to statutory provisions that have only been given limited consideration in the International Standard IEC 62305-3. The selection and installation of surge protection measures for the power supply are carried out in accordance with DIN VDE 0100-534 (VDE 0100-534) and for communication lines in accordance with DIN VDE 0845 Supplement 1 (VDE 0845 Supplement 1). Moreover, standards for the installation of low-voltage systems and alarm systems, such as DIN VDE 0833-1 (VDE 0833-1) or insurance-related requirements VdS 2031 or VdS 2095, shall be observed. The standard differs from DIN EN 62305-3 Supplement 2 (VDE 0185-305-3 Supplement 2):2012-10 as follows: a) comprehensive editorial revision of the Supplement; b) omission of Clause 4 "Buildings and facilities in potentially explosive atmospheres". This content is dealt with in Supplement 7; c) new examples added and existing examples revised. The facilities listed as examples in this Supplement provide guidance on how potential lightning protection measures can be implemented when required. Examples include measures for hospitals, sports facilities, chimneys, telecommunications towers, cable cars, inflatable structures, bridges, cranes, windmills, high-bay warehouses, logistics centers, public swimming pools, and mountain shelters.
