Concrete, reinforced and prestressed concrete structures - Part 2: Concrete
Abstract
(1) This document specifies the rules required by DIN EN 206:2021-06 at the place of use and applies to concrete used for cast-in-place concrete structures, precast concrete structures, and precast elements for buildings and civil engineering structures. This document specifies requirements for concrete classes BK-N, BK-E, and BK-S in accordance with DIN 1045-1000:2023-08. (2) Concrete covered by this document includes: –normal, heavy, and lightweight concrete; –site-mixed concrete, ready-mix concrete, or concrete produced in a precast plant; –compacted or self-compacting concrete that—apart from artificially introduced air voids—contains no significant proportion of entrapped air. NOTE: For a definition regarding the content of entrapped air, see also [41]. (3) This document specifies requirements for: –Concrete raw materials; –Properties of fresh concrete and hardened concrete and their verification; –restrictions on concrete mix design; –curing of concrete; –delivery of fresh concrete; –production control procedures; –conformity criteria and assessment of conformity. (4) Other European standards for specific products, e.g., precast concrete products, or for processes within the scope of this document may require or permit deviations from this document. (5) For specific applications, additional or different requirements may be specified in other European standards, e.g., for: –Concrete for roads and other traffic areas (e.g., concrete pavement according to DIN EN 13877-1); –Special techniques (e.g., shotcrete according to DIN EN 14487-1). (6) Supplementary requirements or other test methods may be specified for special types of concrete and applications, e.g., for: –concrete for massive structures (e.g., dams); –dry-mix concrete; –concrete with Dmax ≤ 4 mm (mortar); –self-compacting concrete (SCC) with lightweight or heavyweight aggregates or with fibers; –concrete with a porous structure (e.g., drainage concrete for dewatering). (6a) The requirements for concrete class N and concrete class E are derived from this document and—where applicable—from the standards listed below: –DAfStb Guideline “Preventive Measures Against Destructive Alkali Reaction in Concrete (Alkali Guideline)” –DAfStb Guideline “Production and Use of Dry Concrete and Dry Mortar (Dry Concrete Guideline)” –DAfStb Guideline “Concrete with Extended Workability Time (Retarded Concrete)” –DAfStb Guideline “Steel-Fiber-Reinforced Concrete” –Concrete for secondary barriers according to the DAfStb Guideline “Concrete Construction for Handling Substances Hazardous to Water” –Concrete for watertight structures in accordance with the DAfStb Guideline “Watertight Concrete Structures (WU Guideline)” The production of concrete for massive structures may be carried out in accordance with the DAfStb Guideline “Massive Concrete Components.” << BK-E: (6b) For concretes classified as concrete class BK-E, all regulations for concrete class BK-N apply. In addition, the following specific requirements always apply to concrete class BK-E: –Specification of concrete based on properties (see 6.2); –Information provided by the concrete manufacturer to the user (see 7.2); –Delivery note for ready-mix concrete (see 7.3); –Concrete mix design and initial testing (see 9.5). >> << BK-S: (6c) In concrete class BK-S, deviating specifications may be established in accordance with the performance specification. NOTE: The implementation of DIN EN 206:2021-06, 1 (4), (5), and (6) has been implemented in accordance with the preceding paragraphs. >> (7) This standard does not apply to: –Aerated concrete; –Foam concrete; –Concrete with a bulk density of less than 800 kg/m³; –refractory concrete; –concrete with Dmax ≤ 4 mm, with the exception of cement mortar as specified in 5.3.7. (8) This standard does not contain any health and safety requirements for the protection of workers during the production and delivery of concrete.
