Overview
This part of IEC 61076 constitutes a detail product specification for 8-way connectors for data transmission with frequencies up to 600 MHz. It covers protective housings for upgrading existing 8-way shielded and unshielded connectors utilizing the interface described in the IEC 60603-7 series to IP65/IP67 rating according to IEC 60529, for use in industrial environments. The housings cover a variety of different locking mechanisms according to this part of IEC 61076 and a variety of different mounting configurations and termination types which are detailed in the IEC 60603-7 series. Common mating configurations for all variants are defined in IEC 60603-7. The mating dimensions for the housings under Clause 3 allow the mating conditions under IEC 60603-7 to be fulfilled. The fully assembled variants (connectors) described in this part of IEC 61076 incorporate fully compliant IEC 60603-7 series fixed and free connectors. This document, originally published in 2006 and comprising 10 versions, now describes 5 versions of connector housings with different geometries (rectangular or round) and locking systems (locking lever, snap lock, bayonet lock), which are suitable for all connector interfaces of the IEC 60603-7 series of standards, either shielded or unshielded. The aim of this series of standards for designs, which has now been reduced due to its market relevance, is to offer several competing options for increasing the degree of protection of the resulting connectors for data transmission to IP65/IP67, especially with regard to their use in industrial environments, while maintaining the overall original performance of the connectors with housings according to IEC 60603-7, which may come from a source other than these 5 connector housing designs. Each design may be available from different suppliers on the market and may be based on different materials (that is, either metallic or thermoplastic insulating, in particular for the main part of the housing, but also with regard to the locking device) to meet the needs of different industrial applications. Some of these versions have been recognized by other IEC technical committees and/or external consortia as reference interfaces for specific applications. Since the basic interface of the IEC 60603-7 series of standards is a rectangular interface, this standard document was originally published as Part 106 of the design (product) specifications within the sectional specification IEC 61076-3 for rectangular connectors for electrical and electronic equipment, although half of the designs originally described in this document (designs 01, 03, 08, 09, and 10) - currently only design 01 is included in this document - have a round connector interface. However, all versions have in common the aim of increasing the IP protection degree to IP65/IP67, as well as the integrated connector interface of the IEC 60603-7 series of standards. Further versions 11 to 14, which refer to this document, were published successively from 2007 to 2009 as IEC 61076-3-114 to IEC 61076-3-117. Versions 11 and 12 have a round geometry, while versions 13 and 14 have a square (rectangular) geometry. There are no restrictions on the scope of application of the document. The application of this document increases investment security for manufacturers and users and provides test laboratories and manufacturers with defined test specifications.
